Frequently Asked Questions About Immigration Bonds

How do I find out if and where a person is being detained, or if they have a bond?
You can contact our office as soon as you believe your friend or family member has been detained and we will begin the investigation into his or her status immediately and usually have a response within 24 hours.
 
How soon after a person is taken into custody can I bond them out?
When a person is taken into custody, he or she must appear at a bond hearing where the bond amount will be set. This is usually done within two to five days after the person is processed into custody.
 
What personal information about the person being detained do I need to know?
The more information you have about the detainee, the better. We suggest you try to have the person’s full name, date of birth, alien number and country of origin.
 
Man and WomanDo I need to hire an attorney to post the bond?
You do not need to hire an attorney unless we find out that the detainee was not given a bond, has had prior problems or is being held as a witness or for any other reason without bond.
 
How much do I have to pay for this person to be released?
In most cases, we do not require full payment of the bond amount. Please contact our office immediately to inquire about payment options.
 
Why do you charge more than 10%?
We charge more than 10% because an immigration bond is a federal bond. These bonds differ from a city or county bond and are not charged at the same rate.
 
Do I have to put up any collateral?
Your bond application will be reviewed and, based upon a variety of criteria, we will determine your collateral options and explain them to you.
 
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, cashier’s checks, money orders, debit and bank cards, and all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We also accept Western Union Quick Collect.
 
Do I have to complete any paperwork?
We will provide you with a bond application that must be filled out and notarized. The complete process can be explained to you further upon contacting our office.
 
Do I have to go to your office to complete the process?
You do not need to come to our office to complete the bond process. All procedures can be handled via telefax.
 
How long will it take for this person to be released?
In most cases, we can post the bond and have your friend or family member released within 24 hours.
 
If the person is detained in a city where I’m not from, how will they get home?
We will provide you with the necessary information and options to set up travel arrangements before the release.
 
What steps should I follow after this person is released?
You will be advised of your responsibilities and the procedures to follow when you are working toward the release of your friend or family member with one of our trained and caring staff members.
 
What steps should this person follow after being released?
Immediately upon being released, he or she should contact our office to be assisted by one of our trained and caring staff members who can get this person started on the right path and answer any questions he or she may have.
